Day 11

Today was yet another amazing day, it was a fluke that we were in Paris for Bastille day (the national public holiday). If you have the chance of linking up your holiday in Paris on the 14th of July do it.

The day started again with a very nice baguette with jam and butter then it was off with Rhys and Yvette to see the parade. We had our trip all planned and it was going great until we heard an announcement that all stations near and around the pageant were closed down. We got off a station later than we wanted but it was a great walk as the weather was beautiful for the occasion.

The crowds were completely mad as expected. We even got frisked going into the standing area, there were police everywhere but all was good.

The soldiers started to hand out drinks and food to the crowd, there was such a good feel and the crowd calmly passed the box of goodies around, especially looking after the kids.

We couldn't get a great view but here is what we could see.

The main attraction that we were interested in (other than the general atmosphere) were the flybys, these were really something. Here are some stills.

And here is a compilation I prepared earlier.  :)

Next stop was Hôtel des invilades. This place is something I had wanted to see ever since Kelly came back from her first trip. My youth was spent playing D&D and role playing games, going on quests as knights in amour and fighting battles. This place had it all, amour, weapons etc. If I had the time I would have taken a photo of every piece as each was unique with intricate designs, hidden meanings and vast amounts of history.

These beautiful pictures were taken by Kelly.

Hmm, perhap not the best shirt selection, this place is anything but meh!

Next was Nepolians tomb. For those who don't know, I didn't, he was a very small man but he had a huge ego. This picture doesn't do the tombs size justice.

Other parts of the tomb.

Then it was home to the tour and rest for the fireworks show for Bastille day was at 11pm.

This was the most amazing fireworks show I have ever seen coupled with the crowd and the atmosphere, simply breath taking.

Well that's it for today, tomorrow, Vienna.
