Day 1

So begins the holiday that we have been planning for the last 10 months. Kelly's best friend was getting married and Kelly was to be the maid of honour. The wedding venue was to be Ko Samui so naturally we were going overseas. We saw it also as a good opportunity to realise one of our life dreams, to go to Europe, visit and ride parts of the Tour de France.

These blog entries hopefully will cover the main parts and perhaps more detail if I get the time to write.

The day, 3rd July, began with a very long wait for the flight at 11:35pm. Meghan arrived at lunch time and we spent the day organising the last of the bits and pieces.

The taxi arrived at 8pm, the driver was an interesting one, a Maxi Taxi given the size of our bags (we are massive over packers). He was short a few screws but had the best music playing (the good old 70's).

We are travelling with 2 of our good friends who are going on their honeymoon and also to attend the wedding of which I was privileged to be asked to MC the event.

Some pics of us hanging in the airport before we boarded:

I had not travelled on an airbus before, it was massive:

It had been a long time since I had travelled internationally, they have definitely had some upgrade in the entertainment department:

After an 8 hour 20 flight we arrived at Singapore airport, here are a couple of pics:

A further hour and 40 minute flight and a 30 minute taxi trip we arrived at our resort, with our cool looking bed, check out the towel guardians!

We all took a dip as it was very warm. We also had our first of many Thai massages, only 200 baht each (about $7) for an hour, bargin!

Then retired for the afternoon at a cocktail bar on the beach.

Finally we had a Thai dinner on the breach with friends and watched the fire jugglers further up.

As with most things in Thailand the sale if services and things is rife, even on the beach you can't escape the roaming sales person from ice creams, home made things and feet cleaning.

Here is Vagas the travel mascot of some friends enjoying the view.

Tomorrow it sounds like the plan will be to see some temples and some more sight seeing so I will update on that then.
